I just had a surprisingly good day.

My grade eights were tackling e.e. cummings, and that's no small feat. One of the girls asked if she could keep a copy of [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] , and I think I nearly died from joy. I pondered writing a long, navel-gazing entry about school. I've had students confide incredibly powerful, incredibly personal things to me. I've had students cuss me out. Yesterday was a wreck of a day.

There was a huge drama-blow-up amongst the grade 8 students. The grade 9s could not focus to save their lives. The grade 12s would continuously talk back or whisper behind my back. This is not normal behavior from them. At all. I though maybe I'd gone and done something wrong, because it was just so ubiquitous.

What the actual hell?

I'd planned to set aside all of today to get planning for tomorrow done. Friday night and Saturday were days for me. Movies, grocery shopping, all that jazz. Sunday was going to be work day.

I woke up at seven, made coffee, and sat down to get started on everything.

I'm lucky enough to have tomorrow off as well as today.

There's lesson planning to be done, yes. I've got to ensure that I've figured out some things, and finish up planning a couple units. I should probably track down and print off a couple recipes for my Foods class too. Can't hurt to have a small collection, right?

I've made it through my first week. It's a shortened one here, oddly enough. It means I get a four day weekend though (thanks to Labour Day) so I'm not going to complain.

As for the actual work though, it's great. My grade twelves are amazing. They're chatty, friendly, and had some awesome ideas about what they want to cook for Foods and Nutrition. ( Read more... )
